5G MiFi manufacturer in Saudi Arabia: a planned line, open to early partner interest
If you are looking for a 5G MiFi manufacturer in Saudi Arabia: 5G MiFi is a planned device line at IK Semiconductor's factory in Riyadh. It is not in production today, and no start date is published. If you are an operator, a device brand or an integrator planning a portable 5G hotspot programme, this page explains how the planned line would work, what a MiFi programme needs to settle early, and how to register your interest so your requirements can be considered as the plans develop.
What a 5G MiFi is, and who plans MiFi programmes
A 5G MiFi is a portable, battery-powered device that connects a small group of phones, laptops or tablets to a 5G network. Organisations that plan MiFi programmes in volume include:
- Mobile operators, offering hotspots with mobile broadband plans under their own brand.
- Device brands and their distributors, supplying the Saudi market or public-sector tenders.
- Integrators, equipping field teams, sites or vehicles with connectivity for a project.
How the planned line would work
This is how the factory's current OEM programmes are organised; the details of a MiFi programme would be agreed once timing is set:
| Item | How it would work |
|---|---|
| Design and firmware | Yours, under an OEM contract. Ownership of test fixtures is written into the contract |
| Work in Riyadh | Final assembly, testing to the agreed test plan, firmware loading, and branding and packaging as agreed |
| Stage | The factory works at the SKD stage today (partly built sub-assemblies completed, tested and packaged in Riyadh); the stage for a MiFi programme is agreed when timing is set |
| Quality | Quality control of incoming components and finished devices, as on the factory's current lines |
| Commercial basis | Quoted per programme and volume, once timing is agreed |
Battery capacity, heat, frequency bands, firmware, and charging and connection testing are set by each device's specification, so every MiFi programme is scoped on its own terms.
What to settle early with any MiFi manufacturer
A router or an ONT plugs into the wall. A MiFi runs on a battery in a pocket, a bag or a vehicle, which adds four questions. Settling them early is the most useful preparation while the line is planned.
Battery and cells. Battery capacity and the cell are part of your specification. Agree who sources the cells and who qualifies an alternative cell. For air transport, lithium cells and batteries must have passed the applicable tests in subsection 38.3 of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, and the manufacturers and later distributors of the cells or batteries must make the test summary available.
Heat. A 5G modem, a battery and a charging circuit share a small enclosure. How the device behaves under sustained load while charging is a property of the design, so the thermal limits come from your specification.
Bands and approvals. The band set must match the networks the device will use in the Kingdom. The Communications, Space and Technology Commission runs a device approval service. Agree who holds the approval for the locally built model, and what re-approval a move of assembly to Riyadh would trigger.
Firmware and testing. Agree how firmware versions are controlled and how updates reach devices in the field. Agree what would be tested on every unit, what by sample, and who sets the acceptance limits.
Plan for local assembly, or import?
| Planning for local assembly makes sense when | Importing finished, approved devices is better when |
|---|---|
| The programme runs at volume over several years | You need a few hundred units, once |
| Your tenders score local content | Local content does not affect your purchase |
| The design is stable and the firmware is under your control | The design is still changing |
| Your field date leaves time to agree timing with us | You need devices before local assembly is available |
Where the MiFi line sits in IK Semiconductor's plans
IK Semiconductor (Interkey Semiconductor) is an Interkey group company that assembles network devices in Riyadh.
- Product lines: ONT, 5G CPE and Mesh Wi-Fi are listed as the factory's available SKD product lines, ready for manufacturing partnerships. 5G MiFi is planned.
- Stages: SKD today, CKD planned for 2028, ODM as a long-term aim.
- How the factory was set up: designed and built to the specification of a partner factory that specialises in network products, with standard operating procedures replicated from it and knowledge transfer to a Saudi team.
- Certificates: ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
IK Semiconductor does not fabricate chips.
Questions about the planned MiFi line
Is 5G MiFi in production in Riyadh today?
No. It is a planned line. Register your interest, and we will tell you where the plans stand and whether your timeline could fit.
When will the MiFi line start?
No start date is published. We discuss timing with each partner that registers interest.
Can you supply hotspots for our staff now?
Not from this line. For devices needed now, buy finished, approved devices through an operator or a distributor.
Will you design a MiFi for us?
Not today. Programmes run on the OEM model: you bring the design. Product design belongs to the long-term ODM phase.
Can the devices carry our brand?
Under the OEM model, branding and packaging are agreed for each programme.
What does registering interest commit us to?
Nothing. It tells us your requirements, so they can be considered as the plans develop.
Register early interest in the 5G MiFi line
Share the device specification you have in mind (bands, battery), the expected annual volume and the date you need units in the field. We will reply with where the plans for the MiFi line stand and whether your timing could fit.
